Year One Costs Nothing, and That Is True

Order formation through Inc Authority and the registered agent line rides along at no charge for twelve months. That is not a trick, and we are not going to spend paragraphs implying it is one. A new Tennessee LLC in its first twelve months is usually short on cash and long on paperwork, and one fewer invoice in that stretch is a genuine help.

A State That Shows Its Work

Consider how much Tennessee is willing to tell you before you spend anything.

The LLC annual report is $50 per member. The minimum is $300 and it covers your first six members. The ceiling is $3,000, reached at sixty members, and the state will tell you that too. Changing your registered agent on that report adds exactly $20. Paying online adds a processing charge, published as roughly 2.29 percent for cards or about ninety-five cents for an e-check, and a mailed check avoids it. The separate change-of-agent filing is $20.

Every figure in that paragraph is available to you before you commit to anything. You can build a five-year Tennessee compliance budget off the state's own forms and be accurate to the dollar.

Now put the agent line into that budget. For a company on an Inc Authority package, year one is zero. Year two is blank.

Where We Looked, and What We Are Not Going to Do

We spent part of a July 2026 afternoon on their site trying to find a second-year figure for agent service. The package comparisons list what is bundled. The help section explains how the included year functions. The front page sells the zero. A renewal rate for the standalone service appeared on none of them.

That is the end of what we know, and we are stopping there deliberately. No estimate, no "expect somewhere around," no range borrowed from what other vendors charge. Inventing a competitor's price to score a point would make every other number on this site worth less. The complaint is not that the renewal is expensive. We have no idea whether it is. The complaint is that the figure arrives after your decision rather than before it, which is backwards from how the rest of your Tennessee obligations work.

One qualifier on our own row while we are being careful: BetterLegal prints $90 a year, which is under us, so $99 belongs among the lowest published Tennessee rates and not beneath every one of them.

A related habit worth building. Tennessee's fee schedule is widely miscopied on third-party pages, including in ways that would flatter a budget. A bill proposing to replace the per-member scale with a single flat charge was introduced and then withdrawn in January 2025 without ever taking effect, yet copy written from that proposal still circulates. The official forms and the Secretary of State's own answers continue to show $50 per member with the $300 floor and the $3,000 cap, for formation and for the annual report alike.

So verify against the source, on this page as readily as on anyone else's. A provider who cannot keep your state's arithmetic current is a provider guessing at your deadlines too.

The Exit Is One Page and Twenty Dollars

One filing ends it: form SS-4534, $20, submitted to the Tennessee Secretary of State's business division, naming your incoming agent and their Tennessee street address. Nobody at Inc Authority signs it. Do the appointing first and the filing second, so the record never spends a day pointing at an agent who has stopped covering you, and our change of agent page walks through the rest.
